Advanced Thai Yoga Massage
Yoga massage, also know as Buddhist Massage and Ancient Massage in its native South East Asia is a manual therapy branch of traditional Thai medicine. It originates from the Ayurvedic teachings of ancient India. The techniques are believed to have arrived in what is now Thailand at the same time as Buddhism, as early as the 3rd or 2nd century B.C.The theoretical foundation of the massage is based on the idea of energy lines running through the body, similar in concept to meridians, prana nadi and Ki lines from the Chinese, Indian and Japanese healing traditions. In modern medicine terminology, the energy lines may be said to relate to myofacial lines, which are lines of tension in the facia tissue which connects, envelopes and protects the muscles and all the other tissues throughout our body. The acupressure points used in Traditional Thai massage may be said to relate to trigger points in modern medicine. These are points at which our nerves communicate with muscles in our body. There are 10 major energy lines which are considered of particular importance in Thai Yoga Massage. A Traditional Thai Massage is performed fully clothed and involves stretching, massage, and acupressure based on these energy lines. The aim is to restore balance and improve energy, blood flow, nutrient and oxygen supply. The treatments also aim to improve nerve function and to enhance homeostasis- the bodys natural balancing mechanism.
